This article includes content best practices you can adopt to ensure your ads meet our policy and avoid unnecessary campaign rejections. 

  • Unrealistic or photoshopped before and after images
  • Images completely unrelated to the product (especially when the headline implies that the product is in the image!)
  • Unpleasant or inappropriate imagery (especially in the thumbnail!)
    Example: Extreme close-ups, suggestive images, highlighting physical features that make users feel conscious about themselves
  • Claims about diseases or conditions instead of symptoms
    Example: Cancer and diabetes instead of pain or fatigue
  • Using absolute language
    Example: Cure, prevent, treat, end years of, get rid of, reverse, make it disappear
  • Discouraging the use of or comparing to conventional medicine
    Example: ’Forget the pills’, ‘You don’t need surgery’, ‘Better than medicines’
  • Falsely claiming that the product is recommended by a healthcare professional
  • Adding mandatory disclosures where applicable
    • Example: ‘The offer is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease; The offer does not constitute medical advice. The offer is not a substitute for medication or other treatment prescribed by a physician or health care provider. Users should consult a doctor before starting any treatment.’
    • For the US: Disclose whether the product has been evaluated by the FDA or not
  • Hyperlinking scientific studies to support claims
  • Listing the product ingredients where applicable 
  • Video buttons and transcripts in campaigns using video whiteboards
  • Company Registration details or valid license for medical services (ensure there is policy pre-approval prior to campaign launch) Example: Hospitals, clinical trials and clinics
  • Proof of FDA, CE approval (or equivalent in other countries) especially for products intended for patients carrying a serious disease/physical condition/injury Example: Insulin management devices, inhalers, OPEP devices (AirPhysio)
  • Company details (example: phone, address)
  • CBD
    • Missing THC% details in compliance with the targeted geo Example: 0,2% in most European countries or 0,3% in the US
  • Missing disclaimers in compliance with the targeted geo
    • Age disclaimer Example: 18+ in Germany or 21+ in the United States
  • Advisory Disclaimer Example: “If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking any medications or under medical supervision, please consult a doctor or healthcare professional before use.”
  • Use of cannabis leave images (hemp leaves are also prohibited in thumbnails)
  • Targeting countries that are not yet open for CBD
    Open target geos are: Australia (must have a ARTG license), Bulgaria, Canada (must have a NPN license), Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, and the United States
  • Advertising vaping (all tobacco and smoking products are prohibited in Taboola)
  • Weight loss 
    • Claiming specific weight loss amounts in creatives
    • Claiming to cause weight loss of 2 lbs or more a week for a month or more without dieting or exercise
    • Missing mandatory disclosures 
      • Disclose that weight loss is achieved as part of a healthy reduced-calorie diet and exercise program (mandatory)
      • Disclose that typical consumers lose 1-2 pounds per week on average
  • Products requiring policy pre-approval prior to campaign launch get rejected, most commonly in medical services, medical tests, online pharmacies, vaccines (please ask your account manager or support to know more)
  • Certain prohibited products cannot be advertised on Taboola such as Medical marijuana, prescription medicine (unless gated via online pharmacy), STD-related products, transdermal patches, products claiming weight loss by wearing them on the skin
